La Soufriere Leeward Trail

At just under five miles, this is a longer, more challenging ascent than the Windward Trail.  The average slope is around 14% (most treadmills max out at 15%), and considering that the first mile of this trail is mostly downhill and along the beach, the remainder is an uphill battle.  Roll over the picture on the right for a preview, or download the KMZ file and open in Google Earth.

Wallibou Sugarmill Ruins

This trail is under a mile long, but one of the hardest to follow, what with all the intersections of other trails to navigate.  For a real challenge, skip the trail file, take the first inland trail north of the Wallibou river, and make a LEFT at every intersection...five, I think.  If it's overgrown, you might walk right past it. Trinity Falls

The Trinity Falls trail is half road, half trail, but pretty simple to follow.  Be very careful crossing the boards covering the streams (5 or 6), and VERY careful on the staircases.  Some of the steeper sections of the road are slick as ice when even damp, so be careful there, as well.  This trail file dumps you out just upstream of the actual falls.   Roll over the picture on the right for a preview, or download the KMZ file and open in Google Earth.

Darkview Falls

The Darkview Falls trail is the simplest.  Stop at the kiosk for a drink, pay a very nominal entrance fee and enjoy.  Cross the Richmond River on your choice of bridges to get to the FIRST waterfall.  Cross that stream and climb the steep steps to the SECOND waterfall.  Legend has it there is a THIRD waterfall above the second one.    Roll over the picture on the right for a preview, or download the KMZ file and open in Google Earth.

Long time Richmond Vale Academy night-watchman and hiking guide Cardinal "Fourteen" Franklyn passed away some time ago, but will be remembered for his quick wit, stories and charm.  He waited patiently for me  on many a hike and shared with me what I find most attractive about St Vincent.  He will be dearly missed.
